The Literacy Council of South Temiskaming

Employment-related (Literacy) Upgrading

If the learner’s goal is to gain skills relevant to a specific job, we have them complete a Standardized Employment Readiness Assessment.  We have recently been accredited to perform Communications and Math Employment Readiness Assessments (CAMERA).  This is a series of standardized tests to determine placement level, skills gaps, areas of proficiency and employment readiness.  This will provide valuable information that will determine the individual training plan and curriculum for the learner.  The learner has the opportunity to work on literacy and numeracy upgrading using authentic workplace documents.

We are offering a free ongoing computer based course called Essential Skills for Employment. The student works at their own pace through a series of seven workbooks that examines today’s trends in various occupations and teaches students what requirements and skills are needed for them to be a successful job seeker. All students will create a cover letter and resume which they will use to apply for jobs. An instructor is onsite to assist the students with the books and the resume.

The class runs each Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00-12:00. Call 705 672-4232 to register.
